Just had the sashimi poke bowl take away, and whilst being beautifully presented and fairly priced for a restaurant, there was just a couple of things missing.The rice was served warm, which had actually started to cook the fish, and gave it a weird texture and feeling.Lack of citrus, or vibrancy in flavour to lift the dish you usually get from mango or pineapple.Lack of dressing all round, had to add a lot of soy at home.The fish whilst great quality still had the skin on in parts which we didn’t love.Friendly owners and I hope they do well - will give another try due in time.

A hidden gem. Stunning food, as fresh as you get and presentation to rival any fine dining restaurant. Our kids enjoyed their hand rolls (and the chef was able to adapt to their slight fussy-ness). We had the feed me which was plentiful and amazing. Highly recommend!

So happy for having dinner here and found the high quality cuisines here.They have the best chefs and sake and I definitely recommend them to you if you love the real Japanese cuisine.

I had my birthday lunch here and we had an amazing experience! 1. The food was fresh, authentic and delicious 2. The service was excellent; and, 3. the drinks, especially the gin selection, was top shelf! Thank you Izakaya Chouchou :) I would highly recommend coming here!

I had a variety of entrees and a chicken teriyaki poke bowl. Firstly, the presentation of all food was impeccable. The effort Jun and his kitchen have put into each meal is made obvious. Secondly, the flavours were as diverse as you can get while still sticking to their traditional Japanese roots making out a delicious poke bowl. Thirdly, the food although not extremely large, was filling and felt like the perfect amount and healthily reflected the price. Fourthly, Jun, our unfailing server was the most attentive and down to earth server I have ever had elevating the whole experience. You can sense his adoration for Japanese fine dining in both his persona and food.Sidenote: The bathroom was amazing, large, extremely clean and organised!

Food quality is really good. Felt real Japanese touch all over the place. Its a small place but felt very homely and service is good. Might be a bit overpriced. Costed us $130 for two people.

Best Japanese in Melbourne!!!Chou Chou had an amazing and cozy vibe, best authentic Japanese food in Melbourne and the best smelling bathroom I’ve ever experienced! The presentation of the food was on point with the tofu poke bowl being the stand out. Not to mention the owner, jun who’s a lovely hose and obviously a lover of fine cuisine. Would definitely recommend to anyone

Its tough to rate any restaurant and hand out 5 stars. And so it is that our experience at Izakaya Chouchou is only 4 stars. The service was excellent, and the place is spotlessly clean. 5 stars for that. We were ushered to our table on arrival and walked through the specials - which are also up on the wall via a light pro, adding to a modern touch.Thinking 5 stars right? Nah not quite. We were a party of 5 with 3 children. The kids had Poke bowls which were over predominantly rice. I ordered the Teriyaki chicken main - for $27 was a thigh fillet, which is OK too, but it was only just cooked. And I mean just! it was uncomfortably on that chewy/springy almost pink border that had you checking every piece and wondering why there are good reasons that chicken is not served as sushi.Finally two things1. The Price. $187 for a family of 5 who consumed just 2 beers is up there for a week night treat. Not cheap.2. I don't know why there is frosted film on the windows so nobody can see in or out. The restaurant was full when we were there, but nobody would have known it! Surely it would great advertising to the hundreds of motorists who have to stop right outside? Strange decision.
