10/10 cannot recommend this place enough! We've been to a few winery restaurants in the Yarra Valley and this is my current favourite - especially with very reasonable prices for their courses. The service, the interior decor, and of course, the food was perfect. The views from the floor-to-ceiling windows are also classic, beautiful winery vibes! I loved the entrees, especially the cured ocean trout with the crispy skin on top - what a combination of textures. The mains were both delicious - the duck was cooked perfectly, and the pork belly was so crispy but juicy (it’s so often that you get dry pork belly!). And dessert which is always my favourite was again delicious - the standout for me was the feta because it tasted like a creamy but light cheesecake.

Attended 1309 and dined with a set menu for a special occasion, it did not disappoint. The food was exceptional. Great quality and thoughtfully prepared. Overall a very nice experience.

Awesome modern Australian food with excellent wine pairings to match (especially if you also took the cellar door wine tasting prior, to try out their different varietals in stock). An excellent experience all round

What we experienced was nothing short of masterchef quality. It was exquisiteOur 2 course meal had the fish, porterhouse which had all the flavours singing together. Then with dessert an amazing coconut panna cotta and the tiramisu left us speechless. We would plan again for sure

We have just stayed at Balgownie for 2 nights with friends. Accommodation was up to the good standard from the last time we visited but unfortunately 1301 which was going to be the highlight of the visit missed the target by a mile. The 2 or 3 course option was a bit limiting but understandable with current staff shortages etc. The pumpkin entrees was that, just 2 lumps of pumpkin presented on the plate. 2 on our table of 4 went for the deboned ribeye and both were totally inedible and had to be sent back to the kitchen. The other 2 went for the chicken ravioli which was 4 pieces of pasta with what tasted like chicken nugget meat. The meal was a disappointing experience for all 4 of us and we will probably not return to stay at Balgownie because of it. You really need to review the meals being brought out as we overheard a neighbour table also complaining about the quality. It doesn't take much for a restaurant to lose its reputation and I'm afraid we won't be recommending 1309 to our friends

Quaint place lovely interiors. They have perfectly positioned tables for two by their gorgeous floor-to-ceiling windows. The staff are friendly and warm.Food is good and wines are really lovely. Very short menu like 1 fish 1 beef 1 veg and 1 chicken I think so if you have dietary restrictions it’s pretty much set on what you’ll eat. Servings were small, also with the wine. Recommend getting three courses if you love to eat. There is a lovely deck which would be great when the weather is nice.It seems to be connected or popular with groups as there were a fair bit of groups when we dined on a weekday lunch. A couple of coaster buses and a group conference I think.

Disappointed with the service and the food, I order carpaccio as an entree, nice flavour but it was the size of an appetiser and they never brought bread on the table, main was the lamb shoulder it came with fennel and carot which where very soggy ( dressed maybe too early ) and lost the crispy textures of this 2 vegetable, my friend had the steak asked for medium to well but it was too burned and dry, the waiters never refilled the water and we had to ask for the drink that they forgot. The place is nice and have a beautiful view over the valley but you can have a better meal in a upper class hotel

Highly recommend the dry aged rib eye! Everything in the dish was delicious, except maybe the sauce which was a bit bland in my opinion. The grilled whole market fish was also really good, especially the sauce. The chicken ravioli pales in comparison to those two. Staff were lovely, good service.

Great ambience and excellent service..Tried the smoked duck, sirloin steak and pork cutlets - great pairing with their estate Merlot Cabernet Franc. Finished with cheese platter for dessert .
