I did not go there

We were initially impressed with Engels when dealing with a solicitor who had been recommended to us by our real estate agents. She even came into the office on a Saturday morning so that we could sign some papers, as we were about to travel abroad.Unfortunately things changed when she left the firm and our case had to be handled by someone else - and then handed over to yet another person.The matter was the sale of a property and I was surprised to discover that they were also handling the purchase for our would-be purchasers, which was potentially - and did in fact become - a conflict of interest for Engels.Four months later, with the sale stalled, we decided that we instead wanted to rent the property to a third party and we gave these instructions to Engels. In response, Engels completely ignored our instructions, our would-be purchaser sent an emotional and bullying email and our real estate agent also put pressure on us to go ahead with the sale.Faced with a clear conflict of interest, Engels should obviously have suggested that either we or our would-be purchaser employ a different solicitor. In the event they proceeded as if we had not instructed them that we wanted to pull out of the deal. Going through trauma as our move to Europe was not a happy one, we allowed ourselves to bow to emotional blackmail and went ahead with the sale.We are now furious with Engels, who proceeded to mismanage every aspect of the sale/purchase for both parties and caused us all a great deal of irritation and heartache.So now, back in Australia, we have lost our dream property and would sue Engels if we could afford to. If they had done their job and taken our instructions as they should have done we would have had a very different outcome.Even now their incompetence continues as we discovered recently that they had failed to notify the local shire of the change of ownership - surely part of a routine checklist on a sale of property.Avoid this firm: they are charming on the phone but arrogant and incompetent when dealing with your affairs.

The worst lawyers... Couldn't get it right and we were charged $12,000 for their own mistakes. It took 1.5years for something that should've taken a couple of weeks! absolutely hopeless. Avoid...
