Such a shame that I post this. Darryl came recommended via a paving company for some gravel removal work in prep for paving and new lawn installation. Not a huge job. Darryl unfortunately hit the water mains pipe to the house during the job. Kudos, to him, he went straight to Bunnings to get the fittings to fix the job. Upon returning he realised he got the wrong size fitting and had to return to Bunnings to get right size. Fixed the leak (well we thought so) and finished up the grading job. Which was done well.Paving company came next, installed pavings with no issue. A day or so later we noticed a damp spot emerging on the pavers. We thought it may have been the wet sand, but another couple of days later and the spot had grown. I notified Darryl who said at first it would be the damp rising from the wet paving sand but after I sent him photos of the issue he said ‘yep’ that looks about the spot - referring to his leak issue.I followed Darryl up several times to come out and look at the issue, but was told I’ll try to get there today and so on...it was almost Easter but a water leak could be serious. He finally came out to look and told my Mother that it wasn’t the spot he hit. His leak was in another spot. I organised the paving company to come out and lift up the pavers and sure enough it was the leak that Darryl had attempted to fix but hadn’t done it right. The water was leaking heavily. I advised Darryl and sent photos of the leak. He said he would organise a plumber that day, but no time given and with no access to water, my own plumber was onsite so I offered Darryl that he could fix the leak if he wanted him to. Darryl said sure go ahead.End of story, $370 for the pavers to be lifted, leak fixing and pavers replaced and Darryl refused to pay. Saying his plumber would’ve fixed it for $100 cash and he wasn’t paying the pavers $150 for their time and work lifting pavers, replacing sand and fitting the pavers back. I met him halfway and said I’ll split the bill, but he refused that offer and paid $110 to the plumber.Darryl went on to say it’s not an Earthworks company responsibility if they damage pipe on a property because it wasn’t at the correct depth. I would normally agree, but when the tradesman doesn’t check to see where water pipes may run, or even ask the homeowner for the info and goes straight to digging and damages property, you’d think he would take responsibility. Perhaps he could’ve sorted the issue cheaper, but it obviously wasn’t a priority for him and who knows how much water was lost. Anyway, isn’t that what a company’s liability insurance is for?Homeowner beware...***In response to your note re the plumber, I called you back after you had arranged your plumber letting you know my plumber was on-site and I asked you if you wanted him to do do the repair...you agreed. Anyway, no you can’t please everyone, but perhaps we’ve both learned a lesson here...pay more attention.
