Our 21yr old son is a quadriplegic who has access to 24 hr funding and depends on support workers to assist in all aspects of his care. His goal is to live independently and not be a burden to his family. Unfortunately, we did not experience the premium service or tailored packaging to his unique needs as promoted and promised by Alliance. Instead our experience included shifts left unfilled, lack of flexibility, and a general absence of care. This was evident when several of his shifts were cancelled and he was left unsupported for 36hrs without any care as to how it impacted us or the fact that family members had to take time off work. Staff were untrained to complete all aspects of his care causing him to feel unwell. Shifts were not flexible and he was told that workers can’t extend hours as they had to attend other clients within 30 minutes. This meant if he was unwell he was left uncared for as the workers had to leave. On several occasions, we were told about last minute shift changes and our son would have to accomodate Alliance or no worker would be supplied. Overall our experience wasn’t about the participant having choice and control, instead our son was simply a number. Alliance initially over promised on their ability and said they were capable of offering more than they actually could. Be wary with what they say as they may not be able to deliver on their promises.
