Burraga Dam
Burraga Dam or Thompsons Creek Dam is located north east from the village of Burraga. The dam has rainbow trout, golden & sliver perch, redfin and carp for those that like to fish. Below the dam wall is the remains of a fish hatchery, although it is mostly overgrown with blackberry. The dam was constructed to service the Burraga Copper mine which started operation in 1879.

Burraga dam (also known as Thompson’s creek dam) is a nice little camp ground with some amenities (toilet and picnic tables). Can be busy during peak times.

A potentially great spot, but neglected, weedy and trashed by humans. The ambience is a bit off. This is a shame because the dam is pretty....so is the bush when you walk far away enough from the camping. That said, there are plenty of places to camp.

This lovely place is ideal for organised and well equipped campers of the two and four wheeled variety. There are the barest essentials provided in the form of a long drop dunny and some 44's for the inevitable waste, although many would advocate taking your waste with you when you leave. Plenty of places for sensible campfires and lots of wood to collect around the place. The dam itself is standard with fish and swimming opportunities although this is discouraged by signage as you enter. Be mindful of fire bans as the locals will certainly be on to you if there is one double quick. We had some good conversations with friendly locals and RFS as we left as they came to change the signs. Some good mildly challenging 4WD tracks around here. Good experience for those not used to regular days of bush bashing. There are tracks through tree plantations that have been harvested that I drove (in dry conditions) that tested my truck and my driving just a little. All good fun.Overall this is a quiet, very peaceful camp ground with a little history attached with the dam and remnants of the copper mine it was built to serve. There was only one other camper there for the last night we stayed and only a handful of drive bys. A suck truck came to service the long drop and the bins were not overflowing which indicates the place is looked after. In my opinion this is proper country Australia worth a respectful visit.

Lovely large camping spot. A flush toilet, tables, shade, fire pits. Free. 2 WD access. Some lighting.

Neglected area, out of water, the toilet like scary movies, and 4WD recommended for this place , no camping or fire allowed when I visited this place .

I like this place remember to bring your camping gear , tent or caravan and the kids would like you to bring a canoe. Don't forget the food and other supplies though.

Not sure why you would give 4 stars. This camping ground is free and it’s clean. If you are new to camping I suggest start here as It has flushable toilets, bins throughout, controlled fire pits, tables and chairs with gazebos. I like it as there’s no curfew, you can bring pets and fish as long as you like. There’s no phone reception which makes the experience even more exciting. Grab a couple sticks, warm marshmallows and sit by the fire. Beautiful night.
