The abundance of goats spoilt it for me. They are destroying the natural beauty.

Spectacular outback scenery with a few good hiking trails. Campground is well equipped with bbq and fire pits. Drive in is on unsealed roads, but suitable for any SUV. Great place for star gazing as there is very little light pollution.

Mutawintji National Park
Mutawintji is a very special place to spend time. The campground is peaceful and has lots of space with solar-heated showers, bore water and fire pits (bring your own firewood and kindling). The campground is walking distance to a number of great, well-marked walking tracks in Gorges and up to the stunning range. Enjoy the peace, the stillness and the colours of the sun rises and sunsets. Most importantly you are welcomed by the Park's Aboriginal owners and managers to join them on a guided walk to some very special historical and ceremonial sites.Through Mutawintji Heritage Tours you will learn about the local plants, animals and the very special significance of the area to a number of local Aboriginal nations for thousands of years. You will see wonderful rock engravings and hand paintings that it is understandably not possible to see without a guide. The reasonably priced tour is well worth it! We went on a 3 hour guided walk and it was only $50 per person when we went. Mobile reception is limited in the park so if you haven't managed to be in contact with Mutawintji Heritage Tours by phone, ask any of the Park staff as they drive round the campsite each day if they can help you get a tour booked in.The park managers and the team at Mutawintji Heritage Tours are extremely warm and welcoming. Our guide Keanu was full of knowledge about his cultural heritage and passionate and enthusiastic about sharing it with us. Mutawintji Heritage Tours has the motto 'arrive as visitors and leave as friends'; this is something that we certainly experienced. Mutawintji now has a very special place in our hearts and we would love to return there again one day to soak up its quiet power and enjoy the friendly welcome of the people who live and work there.
