As a University lecturer, I am particularly interested in the connection between mindfulness and education. How can we facilitate happier, kinder, more focused students? We are just beginning to understand that mindfulness is a key tool in the learning/teaching process. Mindfulness education has formed a significant sign-post and important toolbox in my journey from anxiety and depression to self discovery, and gradually living a happier and more socially skillful life. The world needs more Mindfulness teachers and facilities, and through that greater awareness of ourselves and others. I have met Richard a couple of times, and I find him to be a highly personable and intelligent individual; one of those people who when they enter a room things are a little bit brighter, less serious. I attended Two Rivers Retreat in Kho Phangan, Thailand in September 2019 with my twenty one year old daughter. Richard Chambers and his team delivered a mindfulness course during this eight night retreat that I consider to be first rate and flawless. The retreat exceeded my expectations after day two and it just kept delivering more and more insightful ways in which one should conduct their life thereafter.Upon my return and up to now (two months later) the changes are still enduring and I am keen to be able to devote time to learning more and more about mindfulness, meditation and yoga. Mindfulness is now at the forefront in everything I do and I now always live in the moment which has a really positive impact on all of my relationships, both personal and business. Following Richard’s recommendations, I have changed the way I use digital technology, and my focus and efficiency has improved substantially at work. I am now conscious of what it takes to maintain good mental health but recognise that this is an evolving path in life that I need to continue to practise. My stress levels have dramatically reduced due to the focus and mindful practices I now employ every minute of the day.I also attended one of Richards one day workshops, Mindful Connection, with my wife, second daughter and her boyfriend. This workshop was a great refresher and also helped open up my other family members to mindfulness so that they too can become better balanced and more fulfilled.Richard Chambers is a very astute and knowledgeable clinical psychologist whom I consider to be a industry leader in the field of mindfulness,. Mindfulness meditations have helped me tremendously in overcoming depression and in dealing with every day stressful situations, i.e. exam stress at university. I’m learning to become more present in each moment by simply breathing and observing my thoughts and emotions. I watch them come and go, notice my mind wandering off trying to attach to old stories and beliefs. Yet, when I just sit with these stories that come up and accept them for what they are, then I notice my whole body relaxing, feeling more centred and my mind becoming more calm and peaceful.Thank you Dr Richard Chambers for setting up a centre in Melbourne where people can come and explore this life changing tool, practise and way of life.
