The Argyle Hotel is a perfect weekend away from Sydney. The journey is a manageable 2 hours 50 minutes in peak Friday traffic. The hotel is really comfortable, recently decorated, with fire places in the public areas, good sized beds, and nice bathroom products. It has a great bar and restaurant. The meals are delicious, well-executed and excellent quality. They make their own pastries and bread on site. The wine list is excellent and sources from lesser known regions and vineyards. The staff are really welcoming and, rarest of things in New South Wales, they are dog friendly! Taralga itself is charming. There are enough things to do to occupy a half day or day, like walking around town and seeing the historic buildings, visiting the Orchard Gallery, looking through the hotel's commercial store (across the road), or having a coffee or wine tasting at 36 Orchard. There are plenty of walks and drives in the area and Goulburn is just 38 minutes away.

A true dining destination from the moment you step in and admire the stunning fit out. The understated food hides uncompromising quality in produce and technique. We both had the 5 course menu and I had the vegetarian option which was phenomenal. The wine list shines with well chosen local drops. The waiters and staff were all friendly and attentive. Cannot wait to return with a big group of friends.

My husband and I went there for lunch on 27 January 2023 and were totally disappointed with the food and cost. I had been there several years ago and had the chef's suggestion and it was superb but this was a real let down. They don't offer the chef's selection anymore and therefore there is only a limited menu to choose from. My husband had the duck (tiniest leg I have ever seen) and not much else on the plate and I had the gnocchi (enough to feed a small child). The entree was nice. Should have know it was going to be bad as when we sat at the table there was a dead fly on the table and another blow fly buzzing around. Total bill was $114 for a shared entree, 2 very small mains and a beer and glass of wine. Totally disgusting and we were still hungry. I will never be going back.

I recently stayed at The Argyle Inn in Taralga and I have to say, it's hard to fault this place. The food is incredible - they put so much effort into cooking as much as they can from scratch and the result is truly impressive. The interior of the hotel has also been sensitively restored, adding to the charm and character of the place. What really sets The Argyle Inn apart, however, is the staff. They are incredibly helpful and knowledgeable about the provenance of their food, which only adds to the overall experience. Whether you're a foodie or just someone who appreciates good hospitality, The Argyle Inn is definitely worth an overnight trip from Sydney.Overall, I highly recommend The Argyle Inn. From the amazing food to the stunning restoration and excellent service, this is truly a gem of a hotel in Taralga.

My friend and I stayed at the Argyle Inn as an overnight stop for a weekend cycling tour in the area.As fortune had it, we arrived soaking wet and very cold having cycled through hours of rain in cold conditions. To say the welcome we received upon arrival was 'warm', is an understatement.Over the following hours we were treated to some amazing food, tasty drinks and incredible hospitality. What was initially 'just a place to stay for the night', ended up becoming one of the highlights of the weekend.Thank you to the owners and Deborah for making our stay at the Argyle Inn such a memorable one!If I could give a 10/5, I would.

The Argyle Inn was a great place to stay for the weekend, especially in winter. The building itself has had a lot of thought put into it's renovation and maintains it's old charm alongside the modern updates in the bar area. We loved the sitting room upstairs, especially the massive fireplace.Service from start to finish was amazing, as was the quality of food. We ate in the restaurant both evenings and rather than being presented with a menu we were given options of what was available, which was something slightly different. It worked out around $70-80 per head for 2 courses. Breakfast was also great and included in the stay. The bar had some decent beers on tap from Capital Brewing in Canberra and offered takeaways too.Taralga itself is small. There was a great coffee shop just up the street, another (slightly less polished) pub, and a couple of other shops. Apart from that the nearest civilisation is in Goulburn which is 30-40 minutes drive away. If you come here be prepared to stay in Taralga for the weekend. The only downside to our stay was a noisy fan below our room (6) that turned on and off throughout the night meaning we didn't sleep very well.Fix this up and its a solid 5 stars!

We did not stay at the hotel but driving back from Wombeyan Caves, which were closed and made us feel like a waste of a trip. We stumbled across the Argyle inn which made our trip totally worth while. We dined in the beautiful decor of what I think is the main dining room, and the food was exceptional. for starters, we had the homemade cheese with sourdough and We had the lamb for our mains. I only wish we had time for dessert, but we had to hit the road would definitely come back again. The waitresses were so hospitable, and we were so surprised to find out that the amazing talent of the young Chef.

Unfortunately I had my birthday lunch here with my family and we were hugely disappointed by the service and the food. It’s not cheap for a three course meal but the main meal was basically a baked dinner, the berries in the dessert were still frozen and the tart element made it inedible. The icing on the cake was when we asked for an extra spoon the waitress gave us one from the next table which was only just vacated by the previous patrons - in covid times especially, that is just not on! This restaurant needs a serious intervention, thankfully there’s better places to eat around.
