DC Living

We recently had a home built by DCLiving, and while I was overall satisfied with the end result, there were several areas where I felt improvements could be made. The workmanship was average, and there were a number of small issues such as like delay, staff turnover, poor communication that needed to be addressed throughout the build process. However, I must commend the site supervisor (Dan Simpson) who was very helpful after he picked up the project. He was always available to answer questions and address concerns, which made the process much smoother. Overall, I would recommend DC living, but with the caveat that there is still room for improvement in their administration process and client communications.

Building with DC Homes was an absolute pleasure. No query or requirement was an issue for Gelly and the team and the whole process was smooth sailing. Given the current climate in the building industry, we could not have been more surprised at just how efficient the team were in getting our house built. From start to finish, we had no complaints and the finished product was beyond our expectations! We couldn’t be happier with the build or the entire process. Highly recommend going with DC Homes!

Our experience with DC Living started out well - dealing with a great designer who assisted us in the planning stage. Our first site foreman was great, and he gave us regular (weekly) updates, was up front with status and progress of the build (slab and frame) - even if things weren't happening, he was open and would explain why and what the next steps were. But from there, we then had a further 3 site supervisors who dropped the ball - they stopped providing updates on construction or progress, often they were unresponsive.During the remainder of construction the site was a continual mess - builders waste littered the site and street verge - and the locked construction fence was often down.At handover plaster/paint dust was across the kitchen benches and flooring through the kitchen, dining and living areas due to repairs being carried out the morning of handover. The builders portable loo remained in the front yard days after handover, and a large pile of concrete and other builders waste took 3+ months to have removed.Since handover, we have had another 4 different maintenance contacts, and almost one year of back and forth about attending to defect repairs.Many, many emails, text messages, phone calls have gone unanswered - it is impossible to speak with anyone or receive any updates on progress.

We wasted a year with Kalka/DC Living. Poor house design that didn’t meet council regulations, delayed pricing, pricing that well exceeded the promised budget, and they became very rude when we started to challenge them. Sales team gave false hopes and expectations, and management put pressure on to financially commit to the “next phase” even though the previous phase hadn’t been completed.I’m glad we walked away from Kalka/DC Living when we did.Strongly recommend that potential customers look elsewhere.

We had a very disappointing experience. Repeated requests to include items they missed were ignored, frequent change of timelines with lately no timeline even being given and lack of communication was prominent throughout the year we had to deal with DC.We started the process with DC back in March 2022 and paid the initial deposit in May 2022 after selecting one of their design and ensuring that all our needed changes were documented. Demolition of the old house was completed by July 2022. We were quite confident that as all our requested changes were already documented we wouldn’t have a problem and would cruise through the paperwork. However we had to have multiple rounds of tenders starting from October to march when we finally pulled the plug. Most of the items requested were not included despite repeated emails detailing the missing items. Even crossed out items where ticked and given back with no corrections done. Also the timeline to start the build kept on changing with lately none given. When I questioned them I was told that the amended tender would be given when they are able, nothing about when the contract would be given or when the build would start.Communication also was becoming an issue with having to chase things up repeatedly and promised things like electrical plan discussion not done during colour selection. There was also the issue of the colour consultant having to google most of the colours for us due to unavailability of samples. By this time almost an year had passed with no end and progress on the paperwork. Wondering if the industry was to blame we decided to talk to quite a few people who started at the same time with same site conditions who were building with other similar type of builders. We came to know that they were already midway through their build even with fully customised plans.As we now understood that DC was prolonging the paperwork with no plans to build our house in near future, we requested a refund as the happenings were none of our fault. However we were refused and told that they had changed staff and things would change. This had nothing to do with us as we were dealing with their old permanent staff still working at DC. In addition we couldn’t afford to keep on indefinitely extending the time to start the build as we were simultaneously paying rent and mortgage. Hence we decided to call a stop. So after one year we are back to where we started at the cost of time and money.

DC Living were engaged in 2020, with some initial delays caused by our neighbour and issues with her existing retaining wall, however it is now October 2022 and our house has only just reached the Fixing" stage of our contract with no commitment from them as to a PC (Practical Completion date).One of our motivations in selecting DC Living was their cost. We would strongly urge anyone motivated by this same dangling carrot to understand that your house will not be built on time

Building with DC Living was a great and rewarding experience. Whilst the initial admin time was a touch slow, once we got going we couldn't be happier. The build quality is great and our site supervisor Simon was fantastic, keeping us informed of the progress and delivering a beautifully finished house. Communication throughout the build was handled well with David in head office always happy to take calls and resolve any issues that arose. Would highly recommend DC to anyone!

We had a good overall experience with DC living in Brisbane. The site manager Isaac Jones worked extremely hard. He patiently worked solved our issues and provided very good services to us.We are very satisfied with the way we were treated. And we would like to thank each and every team member from DC living for providing us with our dream home.We will definitely recommend DC Living to family and friends. I have been working with DC Living ion my new small lot home in Brisbane for the last 3 months. Rod in the Rochedale display has been brilliant to deal with. I have built 5 times before and I have dealt with many home consultants previously. Rod clearly has a great deal of knowledge, he is super helpful and always a pleasure to deal with. DC Living made many changes to their standard home design for me and I am very happy with the outcome. At all times the staff have been helpful and prompt in their replies. I will post further reviews once construction is underway.
