Very nice collection of portraits in varying mediums. The one with Olivia Newton John was my favourite only because I love contemporary stuff.Come early to avoid crowds

What a fabulous place to visit. Our party started with breakfast in the cafe. It was very busy but our food didn't take too long. It was good, well presented food. The we separated and toured the exhibition. What a wonderful, entertaining collection of artworks from a range of eras and variety of styles. The displays are well mounted and the information provided about each work is intriguing. It is easy to walk around and the inside atmosphere very comfortable. A thoroughly enjoyable and enlightening visit.

We are on holiday in Canberra and have just visited the Australian National Portrait Gallery. An absolutely brilliant Australian treasure. The works on display are very accessible"

Very interesting. Great way to see a different more personal touch to history. Lovely the interactive app where you could hear the portraits speak." Also went to one of the events and had a blast. Hope they do more night time events. Worth the money"

Great collection of art and amazing works to look into. Such a warm welcome at the entrance as well. There is also a little art shop and a nice cosy cafe in the gallery which makes the experience more enjoyable.

This is a crazy and quiet and a gem of a place in Canberra. I love the collection of works. They encompass a thriving range of Australian creatives. My favorite: Yellow Portrait by Lina Bryans, oh, and Girl by Charles Blackman, it's his wife, Barbara, who eventually became blind. Wonderful stories in this place. From my last visit: I cried listening to Paul Kelly’s “How to Make Gravy” at this gallery. Pop in now to see a delightful mix of portraits, in various media, Lee Lin Chin in photo realism, or Nell Schofield in absolutely stunning watercolours, and bask in our rich stories. Love it that the gallery reflects many women as well as male artists. it’s always worth a look in.

Always a great place to visit - underground, paid parking and the cafe is most popular now that the neighbouring art gallery cafe is closed and only has the outdoor space with limited food options. Good idea to do 2 attractions in the 1 visit by walking past the High Court on the way

Following a stop at the adjacent High Court (not to be missed by brutalist architecture lovers), we popped in for a first ever visit to the gallery. We half expected a 'dry' portraits exhibition and were very pleased to have that impression relinquished. A wide variety of styles and subjects made it both interesting and worthwhile. Sculpture, paintings, photography etc all made for a well rounded visit. An excellent cafe too.

Loved the gallery. Did a short tour with one of the guides - very interesting.Unfortunately, lots of the gallery is closed off, so we missed seeing much of the collection. There are plenty of lockers to leave your 'stuff' so you don't need to carry it with you.Nice shop.

A bit disappointed with my latest visit as the portraits on display were very flat. Very few conveyed any personality of the subject. I'll go again later and hope for some new portraits. Had to pay for parking underneath.
