Great days walk quite difficult in parts. You will need two cars to run from top to bottom if walking one way

Beautiful tall sclerophyll forest which is regenerating after bushfire. The trail starts with a creek crossing, so be prepared to get your feet wet. Unfortunately about 1 km into the trail a tree has fallen down over the trail, so anyone on horseback would not be able to go any further. Heard whipbirds, whistlers, kookaburras, and thornbills, but the forest grew quieter the further we progressed from the trail head.

This is the Dasyurus Picnic Area in the Monga National Park. We love visiting here, for a quick cuppa, as we have fond memories of camping here with our kids ( when you were allowed when it was still state forest.) It is tranquil spot to watch the bubbling creek and enjoy the bush. They now have fire pit, picnic table, and a very new accessible pit toilet.

Easy access to start over unsealed but well-maintained road, suitable for normal cars. Beautiful rainforesty surroundings with moss and ferny undergrowth. The route starts with a river crossing over small stones, pack extra socks in case of wet feet. Well signposted and maintained route with a toilet, rainwater and picnic table at the start. No mobile reception, so plan for contingencies. We did a half-way and back walk from the start instead of car shuffling. It is not a difficult walk as noted on the National Parks website, at least not the first half, and we are only moderately fit. The 12 km out and back took us under 3 hours with a short lunch stop. There are some steep sections but quite manageable at a slow pace. Beautiful partial views over the mountains and toward the coast when dropping down the plateau at around 6km.Can be very cold among the trees in winter, it was 3 degrees when we finished at 2pm. We'll do the second half in reverse from the end point next time.
