The Waterloo Swansea
Because it was a Sunday lunch we only had the option of a set menu. However it was just fantastic! We were served starters, main and dessert and left the place so full and delighted we could barely walk. The people working there were incredibly welcoming and friendly. The interior of the place still had its old Twin Peaks vibe to it, mixed with a modern touch of cool prints and groovy classic tunes playing on the vintage speakers. Really a hidden gem in the middle of nowhere, would highly recommend a visit and make sure to book a few days prior!

What a stunning little place. The interior has been tastefully kept back in time. We were here for a Sunday set menu which was fabulous. There service here is top notch, ultra friendly and very personable. The food is superb and large portions so make sure to arrive hungry. Ensure to make a booking as this place is popular. Be cautious of the strict booking policy, however this place is worth it. Highly recommended. Well deserved 5 stars.

Don’t be put off by the exterior, this is one of the best lunches I’ve had in Tasmania. The food was incredible, produce driven amazing quality family style eating. The wine list could rival any natural wine bar in Melbourne. Super interesting range of small vintage local wines, and a great selection of spirits. The service and playlist were also on point. This restaurant has gone straight to the top of our recommendation list for anyone coming to Swansea or surrounding areas, it’s absolutely worth the drive.

Just gets better and better! My partner and I first visited the Waterloo in January 2022 for lunch while travelling the east coast. Completely unassuming from the outside, and when inside it’s like stepping back in time. We were pleasantly surprised by the incredible food, great service (despite being a small team of 3) and unique wine collection! We took our family back last night and we’re blown away with the food once again! My only comment for others looking to visit is it’s definitely best for a leisurely meal and the dishes are designed to share so only go if that’s your vibe. Can’t wait to visit again soon!

I was incredibly impressed with The Waterloo! The place is so unassuming upon entering. Once the restaraunt it feels like stepping back in time. The owners are inredibly friendly and welcoming. The menu changes all the time so just use my photo as a guide of what time of dining you can expect. Best as a shared family style meal. This place is a MUST if you are passing through Swansea at dinner time. Bookings are highly reccomended though!

So wanted to love this place but had a quirky, frustrating experience. Our expectations may have been a bit out of whack too. We’d heard lots of great things. We got there early. About 5:35 for a 6:00 reservation. Ordered a drink and they said they’d be over to take our order at 6:15. We sat down. Ok. Kind of a bummer but whatever. They had a big party of 10 or so so maybe it was to pace the kitchen.Other folks stared coming I’m guessing for a 6:00 pm seating and sat down at their tables. I think we were the last of about 5 tables to have our order taken. We ordered the menu (15 dishes). With 5 of us, we thought we could make a dent.About 10 minutes later the server came back & said we can’t do that. Too many dishes. The chef couldn’t fulfil that. We had to take some off. Ok. It was a awkward but we did. Took 3 or 4 off. Left us a bit uncomfortable.Later it made more sense as the room really filled up. There were a lot of people for the chef & 2 people to serve. And then after quite a long period food started coming out but again we were last to be served. (I think we had our first food at about the 1.5 hr mark)The food was nice. We liked a lot of it. The kingfish tartare, summer zucchini confit, ricotta gnudi were probably the favourites. Then the food just stopped coming. From our order, we were expecting another 3 dishes. We probably waited for another 45 minutes before the host (believe it was Alex, the wife of the husband/wife host/chef couple) came back to the table and started clearing out dishes & said she hoped we enjoyed our meal.We asked at that point if we could order dessert and she said we could. We asked for 5 and she suggested 3.When we went to pay, the extra 3 dishes were not on the bill so no issue there. It was actually quite reasonable for the quality of the food. Was just a very strange, semi-ignored, prolonged service that left us a bit uncomfortable. It looked like there were a number of other tables that were left alone for quite a while as well. And being former restaurant folk ourselves, we are pretty easy.Looking at other reviews, most are stellar but there are a few that echo similar concerns.

We knew this place was going to be good when we had recommendations from people who live 2 hrs away, but the food and service we received exceeded even those high expectations!Alex was warm, friendly and funny and the decor was charming and eclectic. The wine was delicious and the food for the Sunday set lunch was well above your average pub grub. Well worth the trip, we would give this place more stars if possible!

This place is a hidden gem in Sawnsea! The husband/chef and wife Alex/host duo, with the help of George/local bar tender and Bert the welcoming dog, are a team on a mission to set your hearts on fire and stomachs full of food! The venue is tucked away under apartments and over it looks the beach so the view is serene. As for the food, I don't know where to start! It local, it's fresh, it's seasonal and homemade. Each dish is presented on your mother's best crockery, as the colours and flavours tantalise your buds.Alex kept conversation flowing in time with the chef to serve the next meal and George's knowledge of alcohol is impressive enough that you'd want him as a guest on your podcast, and Bert comes up for occasional rubs. The venue is a unique twist of poping candy inside a brown paper bag and the records twirled cracker tunes around the atmosphere. So, if you haven't booked a table (as there are limited seats), I definitely would!Thank you xoox
