Castlemaine Colonial Motel

I stayed there on New Years Eve and unfortunately, it wasn’t a pleasant experience at all! The person on reception Jess is a very unfriendly, unhelpful, unwelcoming, rude and disrespectful person. She is the type of person that definitely should NOT be in that job!!! When I approached her asking to speak to owner about the room issue she was very rude, dismissive and laughed when I showed her the photos proving the room hadn’t been cleaned. She also rudely told me when I said it’s not right that I’m charged $175 for room that hasn’t been cleaned that $175 isn’t a lot of money. Both times I told her of my issues with internet not working, she just dismissed it, said that’s strange, no other ppl are having problems. Later at night I went to use the spa bath (which apparently according to both Jess and the motel owner Matthew the room had been thoroughly cleaned) however, it was dirty there was sand grit, and pubic hairs in it. I called Mathew and he continually argued with me saying that it had been cleaned. I told him it wasn’t cleaned, and I would use my own wipes I brought with me otherwise, it would be waste of me paying for the spa room. The next day I was in the bathroom and saw that right next to the toilet was a piece of oat along with more dark hairs ( I’m a blonde) on the floor. I took photos of it as well as the kitchen bench which also hadn’t been cleaned despite Matthew repeating over and over again the room was cleaned!!! Without a doubt those photos showed the room HAD NOT been cleaned however, Matthew didn’t even care just kept saying over and over again the room was throughly cleaned, and wouldn’t refund some money for the room. charged. I told Matthew this is unacceptable. He had a very dismissive attitude, wasn’t remorseful at all. All he kept saying was tat the room I was in wasn’t renovated and will be. I told him the room not being renovated wasn’t my issue, and had no relevance at all. I told him the issue is the cleanliness of the room, but he just didn’t get it, didn’t care. I was charged $20.00 for a simple breakfast of 2 small poached eggs, bacon and toast and horrible tasting bland orange juice which was advertised on menu of having been freshly squeezed! Definitely wasn’t freshly squeezed. I was extremely disappointed with my stay and more disappointed and astounded by Matthews his attitude, lack of ownership and empathy. A good smart businessman would have seen that this isn’t acceptable, and refunded some or if not all the money back. Very bad experience very poor so called “customer service”. I DO NOT and will NOT recommend this place to anyone. Look around ppl or use airbnb. Matthew doesn’t deserve to have patrons visiting if he thinks that it’s acceptable and appropriate to run a business in that way.

Stayed there last week in Room 5 and although room is a good size and great location to town, it is run down and in need of rejuvenation / renovation (I cannot understand the 5-star ratings people give). Carpets very old, heavily stained and uneven, with cobwebs, ants around tea and coffee, towels frayed on edges, mould in shower, and wood rot on vanity. For the price you want something up to standard. Would not recommend.

Stayed here with 2 friends for 1 night when attending a concert at the Theatre Royal. Walking distance (10 min) to main streets. The welcome was warm and the rooms are clean and comfortable. Would highly recommend for a 1-2 night stay!

Amazing host. Rooms were very spacious and clean. I will come back to stay on my next trip.

Have stayed here many times, been 3 years sincewe were there last,Stayed here Thursday night, we arrived at 12.30pm way before check in,and the awesome owner ( new owners) had our room ready we are so appreciative for your hospitality.

Great little motel, central location. Clean and has everything you need. It looks like it has been recently renovated. We stayed in one of the motel rooms and could walk to dinner and most of the things we wanted to do in Castlemaine. The staff were very helpful when we had a key issue after hours, prompt to help us and very friendly.

No communication prior to arrival. Arrived said no booking when I had one. I have stayed in some dumps and met some terrible people in my time. This place is a doozie! The lack of empathy and care of this place is awful.. 40 degree day aircon broken on checkin why argue with a guest when it doesnt work? Air con clearly not functioning. We left and found a better cheaper motel that had aircon. Don’t care that you said you are Charing me anyway and promptly took $200 off my card right away for a hotbox room nobody could sleep in nor did sleep in. I slept well somewhere else. Really bad customer service. Avoid online booking at this place.

For the price ($185 p/n) very underwhelming. The room lacked the basic necessities found in a standard motel room. Only 1 straight-back chair, (should have been 3), wifi didn’t work in the room, a toaster kettle and microwave present but no cutlery or crockery ( not included, have to ask for it) no dish washing soap or cloths, no tissues, no bedside tables. Staff were helpful however. Overall disappointing, especially for the price.

I was welcomed very nicely by Isaac and he was very helpful .Room was ok and clean but I think overpriced for what it wasAir con didn’t work but was provided with plug in heaterWifi was available but no smart tv . Good location to main townI was booked to stay 2 nights but suddenly had to cut my trip short and only stay one night .When I discussed this with the lady working there (reception was always closed) she was quite rude and unhelpful and said I had to pay for the second night.I get that this is maybe policy but she basically didn’t really care .place was quiet and weekday so don’t think I stopped anyone else from booking that room . Feel a bit ripped off .. would have happily paid part cost and not an extra $170 for nothing .

Been coming to Castlemaine for over a decade and this is by far the best. Clean, modern, well appointed room with necessary amenities. Quiet and safe with parking literally right at our door which was a benefit travelling with my mother who was freshly out of care after a broken femur. Microwave and tea/coffee supply with real milk. Multi-tasking staff member, couldn't be more helpful, efficient or friendly. Will definitely be coming back here.
