Very supportive environment yet very disciplined. But you’ll also have to put enough time and effort into training. I come 2-3 times per week and feel good after every training I do there.

Excellent club with a friendly atmosphere and great instructors. I'm really enjoying it. I regret not checking it out sooner.

I trained here a few years ago quite regularly and, while I had to leave as I moved, I still check back occasionally as I really enjoyed it.. I’ve trained at a couple other martial arts locations and can’t say the same as they don’t have the down to earth feel Ricks kwoon did. If anyone is thinking of continuing or starting martial arts this is the place to go.

Great school that offers training in Kung Fu, BJJ, and boxing. An amazing team of seniors, masters and Sifu to guide us.Would highly recommend to anyone, no matter what fitness or skill level you sit at.

Sifu and all the other teachers are incredibly experienced, and the school has an excellent culture of seniors supporting beginners. This is a school where everyone who wants to learn is welcome. There are also plenty of classes plus the school is often open if you want to show up early to train.I've gone through the search for a decent martial arts school multiple times in different cities and noticed that cost doesn't always mean quality. Here I feel you really get a lot of value for your membership and that the owners use that income to make the school better. The only limit is your own initiative; you'll always get help if you ask and there's always room to train more.If you're new to martial arts this is a well rounded style that includes some of everything with influences from boxing, wrestling, bjj, wing chun, and karate. It's a nice balance between traditional martial arts, fighting or competition disciplines, and self-defence. If you have martial arts experience you can use and adapt what you know so long as you're open minded. I had done karate and traditional wing chun before, and while I have some bad habits to relearn I also can keep using my strengths. There's no dogma, so the only criteria for what is included in the style is what works in practice. On top of that there is also a focus on sport science and how to improve your fitness and strength most effectively. If you're willing to put the effort in you'll get a LOT back out.

Having trained at Red Boat Kung Fu since 1987 I can honestly say that it is by far one of the best martial arts schools that I have ever trained at bar none. The instruction with Sifu Rick Spain is top notch, the members are like one big family and the facility is awesome.

I have been training with Red Boat Kung Fu for over 6 years and the improvements in strength, flexibility and agility are extraordinary. Sifu Rick Spain and Amy Spain are excellent teachers and coaches that provide a positive, friendly mat culture that you do not find in many other martial arts schools. If you are thinking of trying Wing Chun or BJJ then stop thinking and start doing. All you need to do is show up, and do the work, the rewards will follow.

Have been a student here since 2005. Sigung Rick Spain is possibly the best teacher of anything I've ever studied, practiced and applied myself to. Impeccable pedigree as a martial artist (and Wing Chun lineage if that's your thing). The mat culture is one of encouragement, with challenge and discipline, and the wing chun form itself is progressive and forward thinking (integrating BJJ, some kickboxing and boxing seamlessly into the wing chun core). A diverse group of students and a very solid work ethic turns out successful martial artists who genuinely enjoy their time in the kwoon and form life long bonds.

Professional and very inclusive of all types of student, whilst still being assertive at training. I love that sparring is included from quite early on, as I wanted to get the practical experience.Adding boxing and BJJ to the curriculum not only as an afterthought but as important elements of a multi-faceted and combined system I feel is important, as although tradition is highly respected, Red Boat also sees the benefits in other systems and integrates their best parts into our repertoire.Highly recommend to come to the trial training sessions if you have been thinking about finding somewhere that quickly feels like a family but also pushes you to be your best.
