Crystal Brook Hotel

Two of us ate here (we were the only ones in the dining room). We had a single serving of toasted Cheese and Garlic Turkish Bread (four large slices) and both had the Chicken, Bacon and Mushroom Penne (see photo). We also tried a selection from the fresh salad bar. The Turkish Bread was scrummo. Far more in size than what we expected. The Penne was also huge, with lots of flaked parmesan cheese on top and lots of big chunks of chicken. It was a little too salty for us (but I did not notice this until much later yet my wife commented early into her meal). Maybe the addition of salt in addition to the normally salty bacon was a tad too much. It was not so bad that we did not finish the meals. When we're back here sometime we'll simply ask for less salt. Too easy. The garden salad, potato salad, coleslaw, and whole beetroot (cut in half) was indeed fresh and tasty, the perfectly cooked beetroot being my favorite. We were full-as-a-goog when we left (the large Turkish Bread did us in at the start). Friendly publican, with a smile and a natter. Why is it when we find a great place to eat, it's 100's of K's from home? *sigh*

The draft beer back in 2019 was terrible. It seems the owner didn't clean the lines thoroughly however since lessee's temporarily took over in early 2021 he has changed his MO.Note that most reviews rave about the current chef's abilities which are well earned and totally concurred with. As a pub, this place is the last place you would want to go to just for a friendly bar staff chat and refreshing beer.Update Early 2023:Disaster, the chef's gone as well as the lessee who knew how to run the place. Seems the local football club went to the other pub in town who also don't know how to clean the lines!

I was here 2 years ago. Food and hospitality was great then and still great now under new management. Great to see the same chef after 2 years. Fresh food and amazing salad bar with the favourites. Schnitzel crumb that didn't separate, gravy that was fresh and piping hot. Steak that was amazing. A country pub worth stopping by for a meal and a beer at a reasonable price

Possibly the rudest publican I have met , called in for a drink to support the hotel as we do in the small towns that have rv camps , we were the only customers in the hotel and I can see why ,very rude to the couple we were with and the same to me , one other customer came in while we were there wanting to purchase a bottle of wine, when told the price was $28 she replied that she normally gets this for $7 at Dan Murphys he said your not there now .You expect to pay a little more in the little pub in small towns but not 4 times more ,we will not come back. Will go up the street to the other hotel next time .

Stayed 1 night after driving from Sydney. Lady who checked me in at bar was very friendly. Had best nights sleep.Thankyou

Fantastic accommodation by the owners. I came in from a long drive and was afforded a most hospitable welcome. I had the butterfish duo for dinner. I'm from a coastal area. This matched and potentially beat the finest fish and chip shops in the Northern Rivers district NSW. The room is clean and has all you need, fridge, microwave, kettle, tea/coffee milk etc.The new owner has just taken charge as of 01/01/2023.If you were not impressed by the rolling hills and ancient peaks on your drive in, Crystal Brook Hotel will certainly sate your other appetites.

Really friendly guys who were super helpful and accommodating! Cooked a great steak! Classic older style pub rooms but bed was very comfee, rooms and facilities clean and well kept!

The publican and his crew could not do enough for us and we’re so lovely. We were hiking in on the Heysen and they picked up goodies from the bakery for us as we wouldn’t be in town in time for. The restaurant food was next level amazing! Big delicious serves cooked to perfection. Humble rooms, clean sheets. What more can you ask for?

EDIT 2022:Pub has been under new management for a while now. Service is fantastic and the Beer is cold and crisp.The Chicken Schnitzels are delicious and there's the usual toppings available - Parmy, Gravy etc etc.My Dad and I stayed for New Years Eve and had Porterhouse steak for dinner, which were to die for. Salad Bar was fresh and delicious.Rooms were on par with most country pubs, beds were clean and fresh, fridge with water provided (plus Milk, Tea and Coffee), TV, and Airconditioning. The upstairs guest bathrooms were a little dated but were nevertheless clean and nothing was out of order. Fresh towels and soap were provided as well.Keep up the good work.
