La Colmena

Lovely place, lovely managerPerfect for holidays and to live there.Everything is within seconds/minutes walking distance (cafes, shops, restaurants, agencys for work).Amazing foresty walk at the river right next doorLoads of parking space in the hostel and right next to the hostel. Great outside areas with beautiful views. Can only recommend to go there short or long term.

Exactly the vibes i like in a hostel, friendly and cosy and with good energy. The building is a bit old but it’s functional and it brings a special charm to it. Very close to the center and surrounded by trees, the perfect Margs experience.

The toilets, showers, the floor in my dorm and the kitchen itself was very dirty. Leftovers, dirt and hair were lying around. It was cold/not heated.People where friendly.And for 32$ the cheapest in town.

This place is very dirty, which is surprising since I think people live here long term. There isn't even a sign outside so I'm not sure it's an established business. The wifi doesn't reach the rooms. There is a dog just wandering around. The place needs a clean, especially the bathrooms. We found another place to stay for our second night in Margaret River and it was infinitely better. But you won't find a cheaper place (per person) in all of Margaret River!

Ok if you’re going to be out for most of the day and are just there to sleep.Perfect location in the centre of Margaret river so an easy drive to all the sights.However, the hostel itself isn’t great- the showers and toilets are filthy as if they haven’t been cleaned in a long while, WiFi doesn’t reach the bedrooms, our bedroom door didn’t shut properly or have a lock, the bunk beds were comfy but definitely for kids as couldn’t sit up in them properly and the place was freezing but this could just be the time of year.

Spent almost 5 months in La Colmena and couldn’t recommend more.This place is more than a hostel : there is a real sense of family among the people living here, and the manager is very helpful with everyone living here.The vibe and feeling of community here is stronger than in any other place I have been too.The facilities are fine, but not luxurious. If you are looking for a place to stay for a moment (even just for a few days), it’s the best place I would recommend in the Margaret River area.Also, the location is perfect, right in town with lots of cool places around.

I have lived here for months, and it will always hold a place in my heart! A wild yet cosy little home in the middle of town. The house is old and quaint and feels like a big share house in the best way! I have made life-long friends here and would recommend it to anyone backpacking the region. We (two people) stayed in a 4 bed female dorm. There is no heating throughout the whole place and it is winter, with torrential rain at the moment. We asked for a heater and were told there were none. We were told there was large blankets in the room, there was one between 4 bunks. We couldn't sleep because it was too cold, and eventually had to buy a small heater of our own the next day because it was that bad. The flooring had a paper thin dirty mat that had not even been hoovered, even though it was very clear that we were the first in the room that day as all beds were empty. Sheets had stains on them and smelled. There were so many ants crawling all over the one side unit and all up the wall and on the bar of the bunk. Beers and waters had been left in the room. It was clear that it had not been cleaned in a while. There was no key or lock for the room, so anyone can go into any room. There are three female toilets, on one the door is always locked, the other has a dirty vent above which leaked the whole time on you, the other has no lock. Everything in this place is dirty and cold. The kitchen was filthy. The living room" was dark and also cold

This hostel feels like home from home, so many amazing people and the owner loz is an absolute hero! I lived there for 5 months and everyone that passed through the hostel was so friendly and welcoming, you’ll feel like you never want to leave after staying here. The kitchen is spacious and well equipped and the toilets and showers are more than adequate and the rooms are comfortable!There’s always a great atmosphere at la colmena it’s definitely the best hostel in Margs!!!

Amazing hostel!Great crew and amazing people living there. The manager was really nice with us!In town, walking distance to every place.For sure I will go back again!
