Mannum Dock Discovery Centre

Pleasantly surprised at the great job done with this museum. Two storey, plus outside showing beautifully restored machinery. And two paddle steamers,one being the well known Marion, on show.Well done Mannum.

Pwrfect to spend time with the grandchildren and catch up the local river history.The museum is 2 floors of interactive displays. The kids loved it. The noise was all part of the experience. They particularly love it when we went out to the backyard and they climbed on board the PSMarion and checked out the wheelhouse and some rooms were open for us to check out. We could even go inside a cabin to see the accommodation!There was so much more to see and do here, you will really have to see for yourselves.

Lots of interesting suveneers and books about the river and the people who have lived all their lives near the river. Also a lot about the 1956 flood.Another is to see the dock itself and all the Pelicans etc wating just below the dock all redy to catch and feed on fish which come through. I've included a picture of the dock.If you bring it up large the Pelicans can be seen.The second photo is the ferry crossing the river at Walkers Flat not far from Mannum.

Very Interesting. Think it was $7 a tic ket, friendly lady working there. A must see, truly worth it.

Mannum Dock Museum of River History exceeded my expectations. There were so many interesting exhibitions full of history. We were there for about 2 hours.I went with my kids aged 8 and 7, they especially loved the interactive museum where they got to sound the whistle, steer the giant wheel and so much more.The PS Marion house Puddle Steamer was fun to explore seeing the cabins that people slept in and the kids were surprised to learn that people used to smoke inside smoke rooms.The kids and I played a game where we found items that had been improved/changed over the years. For example the steel iron has now changed to electric irons.

Enjoyed visit here along with chat with Info Centre staff. History about Mannum & The Murray River very good & educational. A number of interactive displays available. Staff knowledgable & helpful. Recommend a 2 hr visit to see all on offer.
