Pieman River State Reserve

Did the cruise on the Arcadia 2 up the river. Spectacular scenery out to the heads. Beautiful reflections unspolt by some rain.

Love the cool water and the nature surrounding the area. Need improvements in the hospitality.

Great spot in the wilderness… lots of birds and animals, walks, Huon pines, nothofagus and other plants and of course the Pieman River… outstanding!

Bring cash as the corinna ferry and hotel runs on satellite internet and sometimes doesn't work, they have beautiful old timber launch that they take you on down to the pieman heads and back or you can hire kayaks , there's a place you can camp across from lovers falls which is almost halfway to the Heads.

Big John running the barge totally makes this place, his personality is infectious. We decided to stay at the camp site in our camper van after talking with him and deciding that Arthur River was too far on unsealed roads at dusk. John lights a fire in the campsite at night and invites all to join him and his wife such a shame that we got rained off the night we were there. The area is beautiful and quiet but that’s where it stops for me. We went into reception to pay for the ferry and ask about a campsite for the night; despite this being a functional pub and restaurant the person taking bookings etc was soulless, the life in the place was non existent we only stayed for a drink because there was a fire. The campsite was bloody expensive for absolutely no facilities except a flushing toilet and showers you have to pay for, no firewood, no water, no electric - we paid less for far more on our travels of Tasmania. Such a shame as the location sells itself and the staff are fab, I hope the guy in reception that served us wasn’t the owner; if he is he could learn a thing or two about running a business rather than having a captive audience.
