After more than fifty years my bathroom and toilet needed a complete renovation. StartBuild was the second company I called. I was really impressed that I phoned on a Friday and John arrived on time for the quote the next Monday. He is very good at explaining things and I knew from the start that if he gave me a good quote they would be the company I chose (the quote was good). I got sensible advice and really appreciated that they helped me choose all the items we needed because I didn't have a clue. John was totally across all issues in the contract and easily contactable to discuss things. Justin was in charge of day-to-day operations and always let me know the day before exactly who was coming and at what time. The tradies on the job were very pleasant and easy to work with. I really liked that there was no loud music while they were working. I felt that they respected my home.And the result? Well, with service like that, what would you expect? I have a beautiful, new, sleek bathroom. As well as top quality workmanship, I think an outstanding feature of StartBuild is the standard of communication. If I needed an answer I never had to wait long for someone to get back to me.

John, Justin and the team at StartBuild did an amazing job with our renovations (2 bathrooms and a kitchen). They were very accommodating of our late request to install downlights and paint the ceilings throughout the house and managed to fit that in their schedule. Renovations were completed in 6 weeks, which was within the 6-8 weeks timeframe they originally specified. We're very happy with the end result and also the level of communication throughout the process. StartBuild was recommended to us by my cousin, and we've since recommended them to friends.

StartBuild has just completed a laundry renovation for us. We cannot fault their service or craftmanship. The laundry looks amazing. Very obliging and very easy to communicate with. Highly recommend them and will use them again.

It’s impossible not to like John and his brothers, and his plumbers (Ray and Adam) and glazier (Jason) are highly professional. Looking at all the glowing reviews for this company, it’s hard to understand how so much went wrong with my own job. The shower doesn’t drain properly, the drawers have a join around the middle of them, the vanity door is three inches short of the cupboard, the window frame looks amateurish, and the bathroom was not measured accurately, which resulted in last minute adjustments to the shower screen to make it possible for people to walk between the shower and the vanity and left the shower head off to the left instead of centred. John didn’t turn up to our first appointment at his showrooms. I had to ask him repeatedly for a revised quote and I never got one, just the old quote with a different price at the bottom, and still including an in wall cistern which John told me from the start I couldn’t have but still quoted for. I do wonder if I paid for that. The bathroom does look beautiful, if you don’t look too closely. Or open any drawers. The IXL has been installed crookedly. The painter slopped paint all over the place and missed too many spots to count. He had to come back twice after his first visit. The tiler asked me a lot of highly personal and inappropriate questions, and when they were demolishing the original bathroom, they smashed up the wall in the room next to it. John did send someone to repair it, but they didn’t do a good job. Looking at the other reviews, I’m wondering where John’s alleged attention to detail was. He tried to blame me for his own incorrect measurement of my bathroom. Perhaps I should have paid myself to measure and oversee the job.

Choosing John and James from Startbuild to remodel our dated bathroom was the best decision we made. From the initial prompt response by John to my enquiry and quickly coming out to quote, to meeting up and guiding us in our choice of tiles and bathroom fittings we always felt listened to and appreciated the advice which ultimately lead to our outstanding bathroom. The high level of communication and great rapport we developed with James made the whole process less daunting and really exciting. I appreciated the daily messages and photos keeping me updated with the progress. All the trades were friendly, reliable and produced great work, they even cleaned up after themselves!
