Cooktown Auto Repairs

This is the dodgiest mechanic shop imaginable. Don’t ever get a car that’s had a RWC done by this mob. Had an engine light as soon as I drove the car took it to another mechanic as I don’t live in Cooktown and turns out I had to pay almost $3,000 in roadworthy items. Cooktown mechanical swore at me on the phone over the ordeal, refused to speak with me and refused to do any of the work. Place needs to be shut down.

Hugely helpful! Broke down just up the road and walked to the workshop. They came out to our Ute, diagnosed and fixed the problem efficiently. Very happy!

Made time for us even though we could tell they were really busy. Fixed the problem quickly, we were so grateful for the time and effort they put in for us

Took car in as was overheating and needed new head gasket 6 weeks later rang to pick up got told needs new radiator as well (positve it was fine when I dropped off)then Apparently tow truck driver was pulling in and smashed back light picked up yesterday 5 ks down the road started overheating, reversing camera broken, other back light broken and bullbar pushed back and front end damaged, seatbelts covered in oil and to top it of car started slupptering and bunny hopping as I drove up my road. Absolutely DO NOT use this Auto repair shop, my daughter unfortunately bought a car from Cooktown, we had to drive from Cairns to pick it up after its roadworthy certificate was done, only to have to stay overnight as they hadn't even started the work by 2pm. Picked the car up the next day and on the way back to Cairns wheel bearing noise started, the next day engine light came on, so we took the car to a mechanic who found oil leaks as well. The car had several issues that shouldn't have passed a roadworthy. The car has now gone to Dept of Transport to a machinery inspector as Marty from Cooktown Auto Repairs refused to fix the problems. I urge anyone who has had problems with this business to stand up and make a complaint for their incompetence and for people to find an alternate mechanic if they need repairs in Cooktown. We are now left with the bill to make this car roadworthy, not to mention the cost of overnight accommodation. Worst experience, incompetent and rude staff!

Done some damage doing creb track and needing to keep heading north. Was able to sorce me overnight parts from Cairns. Great price, great service and greatly appreciated.

Very poor service. Was told to take the vehicle in at 7am and they would work on it straight away. They didn't start on it until after 2pm. Didn't do what I asked them to do in the repair. Closing time front wheels where still off the vehicle had to call mechanic back. Found other issues apparently which if they had of worked at the vehicle at the time agreed we might have had a resolution. Vehicle in same shape as when it went in. $158 later. So in 10 hours they did 1.5 hours work on my vehicle and didn't achieve anything. They have no respect for customers and their time or what work was requested regardless of their personal opinion. Simple fact they run out of time for the day tried to rush the job and didn't have time to do the repairs requested. We do not recommend using these guys for any mechanical work. I'm sure they will have a range of excuses. We run a magazine and travel all over the country. We would be glad to do a further review on them to our 30,000 readers.

Tracey and Marty were absolutely phenomenal. As a traveler passing through with car issues I was nervous about where to go in town, but Tracey made me feel welcome straight away and Marty was more than welcome to talk me through the issues and outline the options. I highly recommend them.

Don't use this repairer.No competent staff. Don't trust a word they say.After 4 days waiting they said they had the parts to service our Motorhome but when we went to pick up they said the filters hadn't arrived and still charged $220 for changing the oil.Dont believe the office lady,every word is a lie.I wouldn't trust them to screw a cap on a tube of tooth paste.
