We bought our c 1885 large “Victorian gothic” style house in a Heritage Conservation Area in Annandale, Sydney, almost 30 years ago. It'd been subdivided into flats for decades and was so dilapidated as to be almost uninhabitable.Our brief was complicated. We required not only a complete restoration of a heritage listed house and home, but also the design and construction of a modern medical practice with multiple consulting rooms, reception and waiting areas in its lower floors. Rehabilitation and preservation of unique historic characteristics had to reconcile with the needs of a young family’s contemporary lifestyle and standard of living.We ultimately selected David Springett to be our architect and we have not been disappointed.David and his associates are passionate about domestic heritage restoration, renovations and additions. David has a great feel for conservation values and the heritage character of the house but remained sensitive to the practical needs of our family and business.Documentation is prepared on time and on budget and David’s familiarity with heritage and planning regulations has helped facilitate trouble free passage of our plans through Leichhardt Council. He works with a great team of tradesmen whose work is exemplary.In 2009 David received the National Trust Heritage Commendation Award for his work on our house.David has continued to help us quite often over the years as we’ve modified various spaces to accommodate the changing demands of a growing family and business expansions.
