Great country golf course with excellent greens and very friendly locals. Thanks to Louise who let us park our caravan overnight so that we could play early in the morning. Look forward to coming back on our next visit from Perth.

UPDATE: 17/3/23I’m thinking that the fairways have the best coverage of grass ever. We spoke to volunteer John Michael who virtually lives at the golf course and complained him on the condition of the course. As usual, there were other volunteers working very hard. Balaklava is an excellent 18-hole fully volunteer Golf Course. Be sure to add Balaklava GC to your bucket list of courses to play in country SA.UPDATE: 28/10/22All aspects of the course continue to improve. The decking on the front verandah of the clubhouse looks fantastic. The fairways have the best coverage of grass I’ve seen. As mentioned in my previous reviews the greens are the best they have ever been. We spoke with volunteers John Michael and Bill and congratulated them on the condition of the course. Our playing group reckon the current condition of the course makes this the best 18-hole volunteer course in SA. Well done to everyone concerned. Be sure to add Balaklava GC to your bucket list of courses to play in country SA.UPDATE: 27/5/22The greens were the best we have a putted on. They really have improved significantly over the last 18 months. We talked to John Michael one of the volunteers who told us that they have a retired manager who is now the “Guru” of the greens at Balaklava!!!!! I took photos of the sun from the clubhouse surrounded by fog. As usual there were at least four volunteers working around the course. Well done to everybody. The course was in excellent condition and a pleasure to play on. We look forward to our next round.UPDATE 2/10/21The fairways were the best they have been in a few years. They have great coverage. The Greens had been cored recently but it was obvious they were going to be in excellent condition in couple of weeks. Some of the fairways had beef cored as well. The clubs volunteers have obviously been working hard. We had another great day out.UPDATE:29/5/21Balaklava golf course rises from the flat surrounds about an hours drive from Adelaide. The club house sits atop a hill providing a magnificent view over the golf course and surrounding farmland. The course is wholly managed by dedicated and justifiably proud volunteers. On the Friday we visited there were 4 volunteers working to ensure the course is presented in excellent condition. We complimented them on the much improved condition of the greens since our last visit while they were having a coffee and tea break. The course sits in a quiet peaceful setting filled with gum and pine trees. The course has 18 manicured grass greens and fairways. There are some long challenging holes in particular a few par 4 holes. We had a great day out. Great value country golf course and well worth the drive from Adelaide. We look forward to our next visit.UPDATE: 13/11/20Another lovely day out. As usual when we visit on a Friday, there were volunteers working around the course. The fairways, rough and greens are all well maintained. Please read my previous reviews.UPDATE: 19/6/20Like our previous visits to Balaklava Golf Club, the course was in very good condition given that the course is maintained by dedicated volunteers. During our visit there would have been at least a dozen volunteers working on replacing and repairing greens with new turf. Irrigation work was also obvious. As always, we thoroughly enjoyed our day out. We look forward to our next visit.UPDATE: 2/11/19Our golfing group decided on a 3 day golfing trip from our homes in Adelaide. We drove to and played Whyalla Golf Club on a Friday, then played Port Augusta Golf Club Saturday morning, then off to Coppercoast Golf Club at Port Hughes Saturday afternoon then played Clare Sunday morning and finally onto Balaklava Sunday afternoon...... All courses have WATERED FAIRWAYS AND GREENS.We had a fantastic time and can highly recommend this as a great “short” golfing holiday. There had been a good rain a couple of days before and this had certainly benefited the course, in particular, the greens which became more like a carpet toward the end of our round.
