Amazing, a reasonable fitness level, take a hat and water.The trail is easy to follow, very eroded in parts .When we got to the Portals area,the creek was swollen and fast flowing from the recent rains.We swam across, Make sure your a strong swimmer,or don't Do it.We carried on up the Ridge beyond the Portals. Some Amazing views of Mt Barney from there, some rock scrambling. then we went down to Barney Gorge.Advise you have GPS with map downloaded.No reception. Very muddy and slippery in parts, but we thoroughly enjoyed the experience.PS the lower Portals camping area is closed

If you haven't been for a swim at the Lower Portals , then you need to get out more and experience what we have in our back yard. Great hike, looking forward to doing it again.

Nice camping ground and quiet a bit of bush walk. No supply of drinking water so definitely need to carry drinking water if you are going out there. Long walk till you reach the falls but worth it.

The camp is just a few flat square camp sites with a creek running beside it. No amenities. No fires allowed. But the lower portals is just up the creek from it :-)

Been to this location many times and the terrain still blows me away. 3 designated camping spots near to a flowing creek. It's a good hour+ hike to get to it, but if you want to do remote self sufficient camping, then this location is perfect. Bring your own water filter and save on weight if staying a couple of nights.

This is a walk in site. No facilities at all. Excellent location next to the river. Lovely for cooling dips. Flat tent sites about an hour's walk from the car park.

Lower Portals Camping Area
A great remote camping site. Track is hilly, rocky and looks like it's eroded so I'd avoid it in wet weather. Mount Barney creek is about 20m from the 3 sites which are spaced out approx 15m from each other. I found a slither of mobile phone reception (Optus) dropping in and out at the back site but it wasn't reliable.
