Wooby Lane Gallery

A must see highlight of Hobart, this was an absolute favourite from my visit to Tasmania. I was briefly disapointed to see two steps to the entrance, but the owner was very helpful in telling my partner and I about the wheelchair entrance through the neighbouring store. This is very much an art gallery where the art is for sale, rather than a gift shop with mass-produced stuff you could get somewhere else. Prices start from around $10, perhaps a little cheaper, and a good range of stock was priced from $10 - $100. As someone wanting to bring home gifts for family and shopping on a budget, I appreciate this. It has a wide range of work by different glass artists, as well as a smaller number of paintings and other kinds of art. The owner chatted with me about some of the art, as well as about Hobart and Tasmania in general. I have been to public and ticketed galleries with less impressive works and range, as well as less knowledgeable curators with willingness to share. I hope to be back in Hobart to visit again.

What a wonderful gallery with so much to offer. The decor fits right in with the vibe of the old 1800s buildings and the wares on offer represent a wide spread of top Tasmanian artists and crafters. There is also a great variety of glass artists from, not only Tassie, but all over Australia. It's nice for locals like us to be able to see and appreciate something different. The staff and owners are very knowledgeable about all the artists and are only too happy to inform about the works they sell. I've got a modest glass marble collection from artists all over the world. Wooby Lane has a collection of Aussie marble artists that I'll keep coming back to, to ogle and most likely to purchase anorher one, soon.

A must see ! A beautifully curated selection of fabulous artworks. The heart of it being unique pieces created by Laurie and Christian. If you are lucky you will also hear Christians musical talent. A beautiful gallery.

This is one special gallery. Laurie and Chris are great hosts and there is so much magical art inside those doors.

I love my gorgeous orchid bottle. Very safely packed for the trip to the mainland. Laurie was very helpful with arranging the purchase.

Disappointed.There once was a very true Tasmanian made art gallery. Now a new shop, I wasn’t sure if this new shop is a second hand furniture shop or local crafts.The craft is mostly what you see at community town shows and pop up shops.Our tour guide was quick to walk past and suggested we don’t look , but I recalled our last visit and went in for a look. Dismal. drab.Our tour guide was correct, we should have kept walking. To top it off , Not very friendly staff.A few doors up past this shop there is a collection of small shops with true curated arts and more representative of the Tasmanian Art culture.Always take the tour guides advice they say……

This amazing gallery is run by two very talented glass artists. Their gallery not only exhibits their own work but also a beautifully curated selection of local glass artists. This is a ‘must visit’ destination when you are in Hobart. If you are lucky you may find Chris providing soulful background music or even one of their famous glass blowing demonstrations. A fabulous, eclectic collection of weird, wonderful and exquisitely crafted artwork. Amazed at what can be done with glass! And the owners are absolutely lovely, helpful, friendly people. Not to be missed
