Josephine's Gallery and Kangaroo orphanage

Absolute MUST visit in Coober Pedy - Terry is so kind, caring and knowledgeable about the beautiful Kangaroos him and his wife rescue! Thank you for the visit :)

Woman was extremely rude and unhelpful. Online says Saturdays are open so we knocked and she yelled at us that she wasn’t open. Will not be going back even during staffed hours as she was very rude, unkind awful to speak to

Jo and Terry, who run this place, are the most wonderful people with the biggest hearts. Apart from running a gallery full of wonderful Aboriginal art and selling some opal jewellery (this is Coober Pedy, after all), they also run a kangaroo orphanage - but they'll take in any injured wildlife. They hold kangaroo talks 5.30 pm Mon-Sat, gallery opening hours depend on traffic and season. The lovely Judy also helps out with running of the gallery and caring for the joeys.There's $10 ($5 child) admittance charge but donations are very much appreciated as they don't get any government or other funding and all their money (just like any other wildlife carers in Australia) are spent on the kangaroos.Terry has an amazing knowledge of the Aboriginal art so if you want to learn a thing or three, ask him!Definitely a must if you're in Coober or just passing through!

Lovely gallery with some really beautiful indigenous artworks. We were fortunate enough to meet Tommy Crow whilst there and purchase one of his works. It was a pleasure to meet Terry, one of the gallery owners and chat about the animal rescues that he and his lovely wife carry out.

wonderful place, you should really come check it out. You can purchase local art and book an appointment to feed the kangaroos for 10$. Totally worth it as its not only fun and cute but also an opportunity to learn quite a bit!

If you have kids, then this place is a must. Our two loved seeing the orphaned joey there, Billy Bob. They even got to cuddle him which was a highlight for them. Unfortunately we weren't able to make the feeding later that day but am sure they would've loved this too. Amazing facility and care for kangaroos.

Great selection of art and opal jewelry at a fair price. If you're an animal lover, definitely plan to do the kangaroo feeding. Bookings are required. The joeys are adorable and there's just something about feeding wasabi peas to kangaroos that you won't want to miss!

Very informative, took a 7yo and 5yo here and they loved it. An amazing experience to be had with the Roos they look after and knowing that visiting helps out a good cause there's no reason not to come!A great selection of artwork on show and almost impossible not to leave without buying something. The information for the art guide was presented perfectly.When I'm back in the area we will definitely visit again.

This is a fabulous organization to help rescue Kangaroos! Artwork and selection is the best in town and Jo & Terry are both wonderful human beings. Do the 'roo feeding and see how those little Joey's will melt you heart!
