I had a very fun time doing a pottery lesson. Bruce is an amazing teacher and taught me and my mum how to make bowls and mugs in just a couple of hours. I highly recommend this fun activity to anyone who has an hour to spare. It is an excellent way to let out your creativity, be mindful, and get your hands dirty! We were throwing ‘off the hump’, forming multiple pieces out of one piece of clay. If you want to keep your bowls, you pay $25 per piece. It then gets glazed, and fired in the kiln. Pottery is a fascinating experience to get your mind off the daily stress of life. There are many different techniques to shaping a bowl. You have to be gentle with it, and try not to get frustrated if it doesn’t when the first time. This lesson has really sparked my interest towards pottery, and is definitely something I want to continue. I learnt everything from how tissue printing works, to how shells can make wonderful patterns in bowls. Pottery is a exceedingly interesting art. It made me think twice about all the mugs and bowls I hold. I want to keep the art of pottery alive, for I fear it is getting forgotten because most bowls are made in factories. Bruce also sells his pottery in ‘The White Room Gallery’. There you can buy everything from tea cups to little beautifully glazed plates.
