Michael Rigby - Guitar & Piano Teacher

Michael is an excellent guitarist and guitar teacher, my boyfriend and I were absolute beginners, and we are now really enjoying being able to play songs on guitar! Professional lessons really are the best way to learn how to play correctly, and Michael has been very helpful, patient, and informative!

I had the pleasure of having lessons with Michael throughout 2015-2016. Turning up to his place on Thursday nights was a great part of my week- the lessons were fun, the environment is relaxed and casual but I always had the feeling that I was getting excellent instruction. I would walk out of the lessons feeling focused and motivated. I enjoy playing folk/country/pop music (Dylan, Bowie, REM, The Smiths, the Beatles) and with Michael I was able to learn the bones of each songs, but also complex intros and embellishments that make songs unique. Not having any music training I was keen to get a bit of an understanding of musical theory and learn how to play chords in several ways- there was never a question that I had that Michael could not clarify for me. Getting lessons with Michael kept me motivated to pick up the guitar everyday- I'm still learning but I'm really glad that playing an instrument is part of my life now.

Michael is a great guitar teacher. He has a wide appreciation of music and different genres. His helpful advice and tips help to make learning the guitar a lot easier.

Michael is a very flexible and patient teacher who has a great knowledge of music. He is very happy to work with students to learn and master the pieces of music they are interested in. Also a very talented musician himself! Can highly recommend Michael for students of all ages and abilities!

Learning guitar with Michael has really motivated me to play regularly and work on finer details. I taught myself for several years but the one on one lessons over the last four months with Michael have led to rapid progress.Michael has an easygoing style of teaching and will teach you the songs you want to play. His passion for music and attention to detail have allowed me to improve quickly. When I have struggled to pick up something, he has remained patient and adopted a variety of teaching styles. His mastery of technique has given me plenty of new tricks to use and practice.Great teacher who's inspiring to work with and who will put in the time to help you learn. Recommended!

Patient, friendly and knowledgeable guitar teacher - would definitely recommend. I didn't know how to play one chord when I first began lessons with Michael and now I can happily whip out the guitar and play whole songs. 5 stars!

Michael is a talented guitar teacher with lots of skills in different styles. He is able to pass on these skills in an easy to understand way. That makes learning the guitar a wonderful and playful musical experience. I entirely enjoyed learning the songs Michael taught me, and I highly recommend him as a guitar teacher!

My daughter has been learning piano with Michael for more than a year. He is a great patient teacher and my daughter enjoys the lessons. He gives her good tips so she could learn songs easier. If we could not make one lesson, he always found a spot for the makeup lesson. I like the fact that he does the lesson even during school holidays so my daughter can continue to learn. I highly recommend Michael to anyone who wants to learn piano and I have done that. I, myself, want to learn piano and guitar from him one day too.

I have really enjoyed taking guitar and piano lessons from Michael. He is super patient and genuinely passionate about his music. His enthusiasm is infectious which inspires me to keep practicing reguarly to improve my techniques. I used to prefer being self-taught in whichever hobby I pursued, but since starting with Michael I now realise the importance of having a teacher, as they are able to correct your bad habits, and teach you the best practices.

I've been doing lessons with Michael for nearly two years and my music has really gone ahead.We've covered acoustic guitar, electric guitar and piano. For each instrument, the assistance from Michael has helped me learn specific songs that I wanted to play, to a level that now allows me to perform them in a group/band setting.Lessons are a real highlight for me every week. I look forward to each lesson as a great way to relax from work and other pressures.
