The Engage Education Foundation was formally launched in 2010 to support students from right across Australia reach their full potential. Strong emphasis has been placed on students in their senior years of secondary school (Year 11 and 12) as this has been identified as a time in which enormous pressure is placed on students as they prepare to enter either higher education studies or entry into the workforce. Notably, Year 12 is seen as a stressful time for most young people – often quoted as the most stressful year in many people’s lives.

Engage is a young, youth organisation that values education and aims to support students.

Engaged was founded by Callum Forbes to try and bring about equality within the education system, following on from his own experience at secondary school and noticing the varying levels of outside support available to students who faced educational isolation - whether that be due to an individuals locality, confidence to ask questions and socio-economic background.

As a non-profit charitable organisation, Engage is not motivated by revenue and instead is focused on providing no-cost and low-cost services to all students. This gives young people from a diverse range of backgrounds and socio-economic circumstances access to support services to assist them complete their studies. Additionally, Engage seeks to make its projects available to as many students as possible; not limiting them to students of a particular region or city. This is assisted through our various online services and efforts to provide services across Australia.

Building on from the success of the VCE Foundation which was established in 2008, Engage has expanded from supporting students completing their final years of education in Victoria to a wider cohort of students throughout Australia.

Our mission is to support students to reach their full potential; academically and holistically.

This involves providing support to enable willing students to perform as strongly as possible in completing their secondary school education, as seen by reaching personal score targets. Furthermore, it involves providing more general support to all students to assist in making education (and in particular, Year 12) as comfortable and stress-free as possible.

To achieve this, the Engage Education Foundation’s statement of purposes are as follows:

    • To help young people reach their full potential in any endeavour they wish to undertake.
    • To develop and deliver highly effective education programs.
    • To create equality in educational opportunities.

Why do we want to help support students?

This is a question that our volunteers are often asked. For some, Year 12 is just another year at school. However for many others, completing Year 12 can be the most stressful time in one’s life. The pressures placed on students to do well, to get into further study and employment can be mammoth. The Engage Education Foundation, through its various projects, aims to support students reach their full potential.

Academically, this means allowing willing students to enhance their understanding of the various subjects through providing support networks and comprehensive, understandable information to those students. Furthermore, it involves providing students with a good framework to work healthily throughout the year; study techniques, the right mental state, maintaining physically activity and the motivation to succeed.

All of this contributes to allow students to reach their full potential which then helps our future leaders of Australia to have enriched educational, employment and leadership opportunities. By helping the young people of today, we are readying our communities for the future.
